Office Cleaning Tips From the Professionals

Most people know how to clean their homes, and many people are very good at cleaning. What most people do not seem to realize is that office cleaning is not the same as household cleaning. Office cleaning has its own particular challenges. We went to the professionals for some office cleaning advice.

1. When you are cleaning areas that have several people working in them, or visiting them, you need to use products that are hypo-allergenic. You might have to pay more for the products, but you will decrease the potential number of reactions from people who are allergic to different chemical compositions.

2. You do not want to use heavily fragrant carpet fresheners, air fresheners, or scented candles in an office environment. Scents that you might find pleasant, another person might find irritating.

3. Cleaners must be stored in areas where they are away from any sources of heat. They must be stored where accidental spills will not occur, and they must be stored in their original packages. You do not want to mix bleach and water and leave it in a container that is not clearly marked.

4. You should sweep the floors every day, mop the floors at least once a week, depending on the amount of foot traffic in the room, vacuum carpeting daily, and steam clean carpeting once every three to four months depending on the amount of traffic that crosses the rug.

5. Wipe all surfaces that people will touch with a disinfectant. This means the walls in hallways, doors, doorknobs, lavatories, cabinets, chair arms, and any surface that people will be putting their hands on. Germs can be spread by people touching objects so wiping these surfaces down with a disinfectant will reduce the number of sick days the employees in the office take each year.

6. Clean offices heavily on Friday afternoon so they will be ready for the workweek to start on Monday morning. It is easier to get started with your week if you start in a clean environment.

7. Bleach is a powerful disinfectant that should not be used in offices that do not have windows you can open to let fresh air in. Bleach fumes can be toxic and this cleaner should never be used in areas without proper ventilation.
