The RMS Queen Mary

Since the US did not have any monarchy in its history, where could the Queen Mary have come from? Well, the answer lies across the pond in the United Kingdom. The Queen Mary was built as a luxury passenger ship and it was quite a hit at that job.
 It wasn’t long until the Second World War began. The ship was co-opted into military service, where it was converted into a troop-carrying ship. After the war though, it was quickly reconverted back into a luxury passenger ship.
It operated until the rise of the jet age in the 1950’s. On its last cruise, it set sail from Portsmouth in the UK, to Long Beach, California, where it is permanently docked.
For the lovers of history, this is the perfect place to visit to learn more about travel in the late 1930’s to the early 1950’s. The ship has actually experienced more visitors in retirement than when it did while it was operational.

Long Beach Museum of Art

Where would the world be without the many artists who ensured they blessed the world with creativity and wonder? All the works of art have to be preserved for the betterment of society, and that’s exactly what the Long Beach Museum of Art was set up to do.
Set along the Ocean Boulevard in the neighborhood of Bluff Park, this converted overlooks the sea while trying it’s best not to be too conspicuous. Don’t let this fool you though. This building holds more than 3,000 works of art within its walls.

The collections range from American decorative art, 20^th Century European art as well as contemporary art from the region. The museum opens its doors to the public every Tuesday through to Sunday. If you time your visit well, you can get in for free on Fridays.

Aquarium of The Pacific

It is said that the sea is the last frontier on earth. This is because there are still a lot of things that are yet to be discovered, or understood about the sea. The good thing is, scientists have taken up this challenge. That means you don’t have to.
What you can do instead is walk into the Aquarium of The Pacific. Located on a five-acre plot on Rainbow Harbor, the aquarium is home to more than 11,000 species of ocean animals. These are spread out into 50 exhibits that have been curated to give you the best experience possible.

Whale Watching Cruises

While the aquarium is always a blast, it just doesn’t live up to the thrill of watching these animals be themselves in their own natural habitats. While you may need expensive suits to observe some of the species, you will only need a boat ride to go see some of the ocean’s best animals; the whale.
Whales are migratory in nature. The upside of this is that in different seasons of the year, different whale species will be available off the water of Long Beach. These include anywhere from Orcas, the humpbacks, the minke, the Gray among many others.
